The hoodie has been the subject of criticism over resent years. It has been linked to the petty criminal, chavs, gang culture and being used to conceal the wearer's identity from CCTV cameras. The people I have photographed in their hoodies have given very different reasons for wearing their hood up. These are reasons of comfort and practicality, however I think it goes further than that and that and lot of young people are wearing them to give themselves a feeling of cosiness and protection from the outside world.
